All relevant data - including any uploads - are stored in the database. If the database is backed up, the system can be restored without any problems. In addition to the database, the configuration files in the formcycle data directory (see data directories) should also be backed up so that global settings such as look & feel, cluster settings etc. do not have to be reconfigured.
The number of backups depends on the application scenario/requirement and cannot be specified across the board. However, we recommend at least one daily backup of the database and configuration files!
