Change Tomcat user (under Windows)

Modified on Thu, 25 Jan at 4:54 PM

The current path to the config directory can be found in formcycle under System settings > Server information > System paths > Directory for configuration files.
Make a note of this before you make the change.
If you are doing a new installation, this step is not necessary.

If Tomcat is installed as a service, it will be started as a local service. In older versions, the local system account was used. As the local system account already has many access authorizations, it should be avoided.

When a file should be stored in the file system via the formcycle action Save to filesystem, the system requires write permissions to store files on the server's file system. If the Tomcat is started as a local service, no rights can be assigned to it. It is then necessary to start Tomcat with a separate user.

The login can be done via a local system user or domain user, it is only necessary that the user is available on the formcycle server.

Change user for service

The configuration should be done under Services in Windows. Select the service for Apache Tomcat X and right-click to open the properties. Select the Log in tab. Enter the user name and password under This account. It is possible to select or search the users using Browse.

If the configuration is done as specified, the security policy Log on as a service is automatically set for the user.

Copy configuration files

The customization of the user also has an effect on the configuration files of formcycle, because these are stored under the user directory. If the customization takes place directly after the installation, the following steps are not relevant.

As mentioned at the start, you can find the current path under the server information as long as Tomcat is still running. An example path to the config directory for the local system is: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\xima\formcycle8\config.

Copy the config folder from the old directory to the user directory of your new Tomcat user and overwrite the existing properties files. The user directory can usually be found under C:\Users\<user>.
